History

The Glen Echo Community Club, which has been in existence since 1943, has the task of maintaining this historical school building, which was built in 1906.

The building was deeded to the Glen Echo Community Club in 1943 for the sum of $1.  Many members appreciate and support the upkeep of this historical building because unlike older log cabin structures or mansion-type elegant homes…this unique building was the original school house for the area know as the “Echo Glen”.

The building saw many children pass through its door with laughter and learning going side by side.  You can feel the warmth and joy of past days and we believe this is why the Club created the other objective of “preserve old friendships and foster new ones; that it will promote unity and harmony and exemplify the highest type of American neighborliness”.

The group, which currently has a mailing list of over 140, range in age from 6 to 80+ years young.  Some have been members for close to 40 years and many were past students at the school.
